A reactor for the gasification of biomass having a reactor vessel that defines a gasification chamber with an oxidation zone, to which oxidation zone an oxygen containing gasification agent, in particular air, may be supplied from outside of the reactor vessel, wherein biomass may be continuously transported to the oxidation zone in the gasification chamber, wherein air supply elements having exit openings in the area of the oxidation zone are arranged in the reactor vessel, which extend in the transport direction of the biomass.
