A device and a method for controlling a door lock of a washing machine are provided to maintain the door lock state by controlling a watchdog unit for keeping operational state of a door relay when a sensing unit senses an abnormal signal of the door relay. A device for controlling a door lock of a washing machine comprises a drive unit, a sensing unit, a microprocessor(110), and a watchdog unit(140). The drive unit drives a door realy(RL) to lock or unlock the door of the washing machine. The sensing unit senses operation of the door relay. The microprocessor outputs a drive control signal of the door relay to the drive unit, analyzes a detect signal sent from the sensing unit, and judges whether the detected signal is abnormal or not. The watch door, paralleled to the drive unit between the door relay and the microprocessor, drives the door relay in accordance with a control signal of the microprocessor if the sensing unit senses an abnormal signal.
