The method involves inserting intake pipes (11,12) in suction openings (7) formed in portion of monitored space for detecting fire characteristics using detection unit (5). The room air with different average air velocity (v1,v2) is fed in direction same as flow of air through two intake pipes. The location (A) of fire is determined from time difference of signal and different average air velocity. An independent claim is included for sucking unit of smoke detector for detecting and locating fire in monitored space.
