Disclosed is an adaptor 1 for coupling to an end portion 19 of a firearm, for example to a flash hider portion of the weapon. The adaptor comprises a body 3 having a sleeve portion 13 for axial sliding engagement with an exterior surface of said firearm end portion 19, a pusher element 5 movable relative to the sleeve portion 13 of the body 3, and a biasing means 7 acting on the pusher 5. The pusher 5 contacts a surface 10 of the firearm end portion 19 and resists passage of the firearm end portion 19 under the action of the biasing means 7. The adaptor also includes catch means 15 for resisting expulsion of the firearm end portion 19 from the adaptor 1 against the force from the biasing means 7 once the firearm end portion 19 is inserted into the sleeve 13. The adaptor holds the firearm more securely than prior art adaptors in which the en portion of the weapon may slidingly engage with a pusher element. The adaptor may be threaded to hold attachments such as bayonets, grenade launchers or suppressors (silencers).
