<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which has a thin magnetic layer and has excellent short wavelength recording/reproducing characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium comprises a non-magnetic layer which includes non-magnetic powder, carbon black and a binder on a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer with a thickness less than 0.1 μm which includes the magnetic powder and the binder on the non-magnetic layer. When the ratio of an average particle diameter of the non-magnetic powder included in the non-magnetic layer to an average particle diameter of the carbon black is R, the relationship of 1≤R≤2.5 is satisfied, and a shape ratio of the non-magnetic powder is 1 to 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
