<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for counting the number of sheets of a medium on which an image is to be formed, even when being set to a sleep mode. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a sheet number management section 110 having an ultrasound transmitter 111 for transmitting ultrasonic waves, an ultrasound receiver 112 disposed at a position opposed to the ultrasound transmitter 111 across sheets of paper stored in a container, for receiving ultrasonic waves, and a sheet number counter 113 for counting the number of the sheets of paper stored in the container on the basis of a measurement signal received from the ultrasound receiver 112; a sheet number memory section 114 for storing information related to the sheet number counted by the sheet number counter 113; and a sheet number management controller 93, when the container is changed in state from a detached state to an installed state while being set to a sleep mode, for allowing a power supply section to supply power to the sheet number management section 110 to allow the sheet number management section 110 to count the number of the sheets of paper stored in the container, and allowing the sheet number memory section 114 to store the information related to the counted sheet number. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
