The device has an operating element (7) pivotably arranged in a handle, and a brake device for controlling driving of a tool in an actuated position of the operating element. The operating element acts on the brake device over a tension spring (20), where the spring is clamped when the operating element is pivoted from an unactuated position to the actuated position. A release device (41) locks and releases effective connection between the spring and the brake device in the unactuated condition and the actuated condition, respectively.
