<p>The invention relates to an ignition advance measuring and control device for an internal combustion engine. It comprises a means of detecting the top dead centre (1) of the reference piston (P) and optical means of detecting (2) the ignition time or phase in the cylinder of the piston (P). The optical means of detection (2) allow a synchronised electrical signal to be generated at the moment of ignition. Means (3) of calculating the phase angle between the position of the piston at top dead centre and the position of the piston at the moment of ignition provide a direct readout of the value for the ignition advance shift.
