The present invention discloses a method for server iterative search. The method includes the following steps: when an iterative search request is received by a telephone number mapping working group/domain name system (ENUM/DNS) server from a client terminal, a local data search is performed in a secondary ENUM/DNS server firstly, and the address information of a target secondary ENUM/DNS server is searched in a local cache when the local data search is failed; a search directly to the target secondary ENUM/DNS server is initiated according to the searched address information of the target secondary ENUM/DNS server when the search in the local cache is successful; a search to a primary ENUM/DNS server is initiated when the search in the local cache is failed, and the relevant domain name and address information returned from the primary ENUM/DNS server is cached to a local area. The present invention also discloses a system for server iterative search. The burden of the primary ENUM/DNS server is reduced effectively with the present invention.
