<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selective method for producing a 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)isoindoline-1,3-dione compound. <P>SOLUTION: The method for selectively producing an N-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phthalimide compound represent by formula (4) (wherein R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group, with the proviso that at least one of R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>is the 1-4C alkyl group) comprises reacting an N-hydroxyphthalimide represented by formula (1) with an oxirane compound represented by formula (3) (R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are the same as mentioned above) in the presence of a quaternary ammonium halide represented by formula (2) (R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a 1-12C alkyl group, a phenyl group or a benzyl group; X is a halogen atom). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
