<p>The invention pertains to a computer system (2) and a method for operating the same. The computer system (2) comprising a network storage device (NSD) being connected by a serial network link (4) to a plurality of network devices (ND1..ND3). The network storage device (NSD) comprising a block based storage device (BBSD) and a scalable cache selector (SCS) having a cache memory (10) that is sub-divided into a plurality of cache queues (QL1..QL3), wherein each cache queue (QL1..QL3) is dedicated to one of the network devices (ND1..ND3). The method comprising the steps of: a) receiving at least one input data packet (3) that is assigned to one of the network devices (ND1..ND3) at the queue selector (QS), b) transferring and storing said input data packet (3) in a cache queue (QL1..QL3) being assigned to the respective network device (ND1..ND3), c) sending an output data packet (5) from said cache queue (QL1..QL3) that comprises at least a part of a data content comprised by the input data packets (3) that are stored in said cache queue (QL1..QL3), wherein the step of outputting the output data packet (5) is performed if the amount of data of the received input data packets (3) that are stored in said cache queue (QL1..QL3) exceeds a threshold value defining a predetermined size (BS, FS) of the output data packet (5).</p> |
