PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus accurately determining the dirt level of a member and efficiently cleaning the member for an image forming process according to the estimation result.

SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 which fixes a toner image transferred to a recording medium 30 to the recording medium to form an image includes: storage means 13 storing printing image data of a printing object; imaging means 11 capturing the toner image which is transferred to the recording medium, before paper is discharged; storage means 13 storing captured image data captured by the imaging means; difference calculation means 21 calculating a difference value between pixel values of the printing image data and of the captured image data for every predetermined region; and dirt determination means 23 and 25 determining whether the dirt is stuck to the member with which the recording medium is in contact, according to the number of regions whose difference value is a threshold or more.
