A desiccator la for at least one electrical connection 18, comprising a sealed chamber 2,3,4 able to be pressurized to reduced pressure with respect to the atmospheric pressure, in which said electrical connection 18 is arranged with at least one block 9 of open-pored porous material. Also disclosed is a process for forming the above desiccators 1a. The desiccators may be used in a subsea pipeline for the transport of hydrocarbons, heated by electrical wires (see figures 4 & 5). The open-pored porous material 9 may be a pyrogenated silica or an aerogel. Preferably the open-pored porous material 9 occupies at least 50% of the volume of the chamber 2,3,4. The desiccator 1a may also be provided with a suction port 12 opening into the chamber 2,3,4 and communicating temporarily or permanently with a suction pipe (14 see fig. 2) linked to a suction pump 15. |
