<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method in an industrial scale for manufacturing R-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propanoic acid that does not practically contain excess alkylated products and does not get mixed with highly colored byproducts, thus the method not requiring complicated and expensive purification procedures at all. <P>SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing an optically pure R-hydroxyphenoxy propanoic acid or a salt or ester thereof comprises the reaction of hydroquinone or a salt thereof with S-halopropanoic acid or a salt thereof in the presence of a mild reducing agent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
