The battery unit has a galvanic element providing electric voltage to the battery unit. Two types of band-shaped electrodes (3a, 3b) are arranged over a mechanically adjustable unit such that consumed electrode material are replaced by unconsumed electrode material to be supplied to an electrolyte (2) i.e. dilute sulfuric acid, continuously until a predefined limit is reached, where electrical positive and negative poles (14, 13) are assigned to each electrode. The electrodes are formed from flexible braided fabric of thin lead wires, which cooperate with the acid to form the element.
