METHOD FOR MACHINING FLAT SURFACES OF STEEL PARTS BY FACE MILLING CUTTERS

A method for machining flat surfaces of steel parts by face milling cutters includes initial formation of a hardened surface layer of workpiece surface, which is performed by surface plastic deformation, and final removal of the hardened layer by a cutting element equipped with a super-hard material. A forming element is located in a radial direction at a distance of from the axis of tool. The cutting element is located in a radial direction at a distance of from the axis of the tool. A centering plug of mandrel of a combined face milling cutter is manufactured with a deflection angle from the axis of rotation of the spindle at 7-9º. The angle of inclination of the centering plug of mandrel is opposite to the vector of workpiece feed. Thus the accuracy of machined surfaces is provided.
