PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high light mission efficiency while making the display luminance of a plasma display panel uniform to secure high quality. SOLUTION: A method for driving a plasma display panel drives a plasma display panel which composes one field by using a plurality of subfields each having an initialization period, a writing period and a maintenance period, and is provided with a plurality of discharge cells having scanning electrodes, maintenance electrodes and data electrodes where the data electrodes are divided into a plurality of groups, and voltages are individually applied to the data electrodes in group units in the maintenance period of a prescribed subfield.
