PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain an in-focus state even when a variable power lens is positioned outside the range from a wide-angle end to a telephoto end. SOLUTION: A lens control device varies the power by moving and controlling a first lens 1 with a driver, and maintains the in-focus state by correcting the change of an image forming position by moving of the first lens 1 by moving and controlling a second lens 2 with the driver. Information for moving and controlling related to the inside of the moving range from the scheduled wide-angle end to the telephoto end of the first lens 1 is stored in a memory 14 for each subject distance. When the first lens 1 moves out of the moving range from the scheduled wide-angle end to the telephoto end, a system controller 11 drives and controls the driver 12 and 13 by determining the in-focus position of the second lens 2 to the position of the first lens 1 by lens position arithmetic processing based on the information for moving and controlling stored in the memory 14.
