The device has an oscillation monitoring unit comprising an acceleration sensor (5) for monitoring oscillation behavior of an oscillating device. A drum (2) is driven by a drive motor (4), where the acceleration sensor is integrally arranged in the drive motor. An electronic control unit (6) evaluates information of the acceleration sensor. The control unit stores two different rotation speed profiles for the drive motor, and selects one of the rotation speed profiles based on the information. The control unit actuates the drive motor based on the selected rotation speed profile. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance.
