摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a TBA (Transverse Bend Alignment) mode liquid crystal display device, capable of reflective display and transmissive display without a multigap structure. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed opposite to each other and a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein a reflective area for performing reflective display and a transmissive area for performing transmissive display are provided in a pixel area. The first substrate has a first electrode and a second electrode disposed parallel and opposite to the first electrode in the pixel area, the liquid crystal layer includes a p-type nematic liquid crystal and is driven by an electric field generated between the first electrode and the second electrode, the p-type nematic liquid crystal is aligned vertically to the fist substrate and the second substrate surface in the voltage-free state, the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflective area is substantially equal to that of the liquid crystal layer in the transmissive area, and the space between the first electrode and the second electrode in the reflective area is different from that between the first electrode and the second electrode in the transmissive area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
