<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique preventing water droplets from attaching on a gas sensor element while preventing soot from hindering the flow of a measuring gas to the gas sensor element. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor 1 includes the gas sensor element 10 having a detector 11 and a heater 300, an inside protector 122, and an outside protector 110. The outside protector 110 has a gas inlet 140. The inside protector 122 is formed by using at least either a metallic porous material or a metallic fibrous material.
