Combustion engine with mixed camshafts

The engine has a camshaft for actuating inlet and outlet valves of a working cylinder. An adjuster is arranged at the camshaft for selectively adjusting valve timings of the inlet and outlet valves against valve timings of another camshaft. An intake cam and an exhaust cam of the former cam shaft are formed in such a manner that characteristic of main lifts (48, 52) is selectively changed about a crank angle of a charge-cycle valve associated with the cams or is stably changed in its amplitude and/or temporal length based on the crank angle.
