PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent which can impart a good pretilt angle when a liquid crystal aligning film is formed therefrom by a photo-alignment method and this film is applied to a VA type liquid crystal display element, and which can form a liquid crystal aligning film excellent in stability with time of the imparted pretilt angle.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent includes at least one polymer selected from the group composed of a polyamic acid ester and a partially imidized polyamic acid ester each having a specific group represented by a group represented by formula.
