Specifically provided is a solid-state image pickup element provided with a plurality of photoelectric conversion sections (11) which are disposed in a matrix in a light-receiving region (10a) on a substrate to which light is applied, a plurality of vertical transfer sections (12) which are provided side by side in the row direction and vertically transfer the signal charges of the respective photoelectric conversion sections (11) column by column, and also provided side by side in the row direction in an OB region covered with a light blocking film on the substrate and vertically transfer the reference charge corresponding to a dark current in synchronization with said vertical transfer sections (12), and a horizontal transfer section which horizontally transfers the signal charges and reference charge read from the respective vertical transfer sections (12), and the interval between the vertical transfer sections (12) adjacent to each other in all or part of the OB region is narrower than the interval between said vertical transfer sections (12) adjacent to each other.
