#CMT# #/CMT# The machine (10) has a slip ring (18) arranged at a rotor shaft (12), and two sliding contacts arranged at the circumference of the slip ring for producing an electric contact with the slip ring. A suction device (34) is arranged between the sliding contacts directly over the slip ring for sucking wear debris developed at the slip ring, and a gap is provided between the suction device and the slip ring. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a method for retrofitting an electric machine with a rotor shaft. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Used as an electric generator for converting mechanical energy into electric energy, in a thermal power station e.g. steam power station, and as an electric motor for converting electric energy into mechanical energy. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The suction device sucks the wear debris developed at the slip ring, thus effectively avoiding accumulation of the wear debris at the slip ring in a cost-effective manner.
