The method involves deleting the data stored on the hard disk (5) with a special software-programming. The data is overwritten multiple times with the special software-program having incidentally complex data. The hard disk is mechanically crushed. The mechanical crushing takes place in a shredder. An independent claim is also included for a device, particularly shredder for shredding hard disks.
