Provided is a turbo compound system which has an excellent power saving ability and which improves the output and efficiency. The turbo compound system is provided with a plurality of exhaust turbine superchargers (3, 4), a power turbine (5), a steam turbine (10) driven by steam generated by an exhaust gas economizer (11), a turbine power generator (25) connected to the rotary shafts of the power turbine (5) and the steam turbine (10), and a control unit for controlling the operation of the exhaust turbine superchargers (3, 4), the power turbine (5), and the steam turbine (10). If the load of an engine main body (2) is equal to or less than a predetermined value, one of the exhaust turbine superchargers (3) is stopped, and the amount of exhaust gas extracted from the engine main body (2) is reduced, so that the output of the power turbine (5) is reduced.
