The method involves alternately transmitting signal sections of electromagnetic signals, which are transmitted from an observing point, in a same sequence. Other signals are transmitted from the observing point synchronous to the former signals. Each of the latter signals is differentiated from the former signals by a frequency offset. A frequency of each signal is reduced or increased to a preset value, which is multiplied with an integral factor. Echos of the signals are separately received and mixed with the signals. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for determining a distance and a relative speed of a remote object from an observing point.
