The polymerisation is carried out at 20-200, pref. 40-120 degrees C in a solvent for the monomer, the initiators being of formula X(R1)(R2)Si-OMe', where R1 and R2 represent same or different alkyl or aryl gps, X is R1 or R2 or OMe', where M' is a monovalent metal, pref. a main Gp I metal. Polymerisation products are polyesters which can form films and fibres.
