PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and the like enabled in transfer by an easy operation when programs and data in a small-capacity storage device are transferred to a large-capacity storage device in the additional installation of the large-capacity storage device. SOLUTION: In an information processing apparatus having the small-capacity storage device storing existing data including existing programs and a data input means capable of inputting data from the outside via a recording medium, the additional installation of the large-capacity storage device and the reconstruction of a system are carried out. The information processing apparatus also includes: a detection means detecting the additional installation of the large-capacity storage device; a display means prompting an input of the recording medium recorded with a data transfer program when the additionally installed large-capacity storage device is detected; and a data transfer means transferring the existing data to the large-capacity storage device in accordance with the data transfer program. A save area for temporarily saving the existing data is arranged in the recording medium. The data transfer means temporarily saves the existing data in the save area before transferring the existing data to a predetermined area secured in the large-capacity storage device.
