PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball end mill and an insert for edge changing type ball end mill capable of improving the surface roughness of a machining surface of a workpiece material, and stably securing machining accuracy. SOLUTION: The ball end mill has a cutting edge 15 where a rotation orbit around an axis O has a spherical surface shape having its center on the axis O at a tip of an end mill body rotated around the axis O. At the tip center of the tip, a recessed portion 17 recessed to a rear end side in the axis O direction is formed. The cutting edge 15 extends from an outer edge 18 of the recessed portion 17 toward a rear end side of the end mill body. The recessed portion 17 includes a wall surface 19 extending from the outer edge 18 to the rear end side in the axis O direction, and a bottom surface 20 intersecting the wall surface 19 and turning to a tip side of the end mill body.
