PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire-retardant polyethylene terephthalate fiber suitable for use in clothes, non-clothes, and industrial fields, or the like. SOLUTION: The fire-retardant polyethylene terephthalate fiber includes a phosphazene compound having a specific structure (component A) and a nitrogen-containing compound having a decomposition starting temperature of not more than 400°C (component B), wherein the content of phosphorus element derived from the component A is 0.1-2.5 wt.% based on the total amount of fibers, the content of nitrogen element derived from the component A and the component B is 1.0-8.0 wt.% based on the total amount of fibers, and the ratio (Y/X) is not more than 0.1, wherein X is the amount of nitrogen element derived from the component B in an area outside from the half of the width from the center to the surface of the cross-section of the fiber, and Y is the amount of nitrogen element derived from the component B in an area inside from the half of the width from the center to the surface of the cross-section of the fiber.
