The catalyzer (3), has a compressed air system (5) provided for dedusting of deposits and blockages within an area of the catalyzer. Front edges (3a) of the catalyzer are exposed to dust-containing exhaust gases and shielded by a protective or sacrificial layer (4). The compressed air system is designed for production of compressed air impulses with maximum duration and impact forces of 200 Newton. The air system comprises nozzles (5b) and a moving mechanism (6). The layer is made of ceramic material or rust-proof austenitic steel with less than 13 percentage of chromium contents. An independent claim is also included for a method for denitrifying dust-containing exhaust gases.
