PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a granular carboxyl group-containing polymer simply which has a specific median particle diameter and large bulk density, and swells easily with water. SOLUTION: This method for producing the granular carboxyl group-containing polymer includes steps of mixing an organic solvent of a dielectric constant of 2-19 with 100 pts.mass of the carboxyl group-containing polymer of a bulk density of 0.18-0.28 g/cm3in a ratio of following formula, and granulating by agitation: [-4Z+110]≤Y≤[-2Z+190], wherein Y: the amount of use (pts.mass) of the organic solvent of the dielectric constant of 2-19, and Z: the dielectric constant of the organic solvent.
