PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an observation system for medical treatment with a structure suitable for measuring the photographing distance between an image pickup means like an electronic scope, etc. and a subject. SOLUTION: The observation system for medical treatment includes a plurality of light guide paths to guide illumination light in the range of prescribed wavelengths, these light guide paths being arranged so that when the illumination light with a prescribed wavelength is guided in all the light guide paths, the subject can evenly be illuminated by the light with this wavelength, a shield means arranged within at least a light guide path to shield illumination light with a specific wavelength for a prescribed period of time, an image pickup means to pickup a light figure corresponding to light with the wavelengths other than the specific wavelength in which light is radiated on the subject during the prescribed period of time, a means to generate the image of the subject from the photographed light figure, a means to detect the brightness distributions corresponding to the specific wavelengths of light radiated on the subject within the prescribed period of time, and a means to calculate the photographing distance from the image pickup means to the subject based on the detected brightness distributions.
