Roll bearing component of steel, comprises (in wt.%): carbon (0.10-0.50); chromium (at least 10); sulfur (maximum of 0.008); silicon (at least 0.2); and nitrogen (0.1-0.8), at least in an outer layer, where at least 80% of the nitrogen is dissolved in the steel.
