A method for transmitting data in a mobile communication system and a system thereof are provided to enhance efficiency in transmitting packet data and to reduce a data loss due to handoff even when it occurs. A method for transmitting data in a mobile communication system comprises the following several steps. A DMC(DO Media Controller) of an ANC(Access Network Controller) assigns a data buffer for temporally storing packet data to a specific data call(S710). The DMC receives the packet data, to be transmitted to a mobile communication terminal, from an IPP or an RPP via a GAN(Gateway Access Node)(S720). The DMC temporarily stores the packet data in the data buffer, and notifies a DEC(DO channel Element Controller) that there exists the packet data to be transmitted to the mobile communication terminal(S730). The DEC assigns a traffic channel to the mobile communication terminal(S740) and notifies the DMC that assignment of the traffic channel is completed(S750). The DMC transmits the stored packet data to the DEC(S760). The DEC transmits the received packet data to the mobile communication terminal in real time while not performing a scheduling or a data buffering operation additionally(S770).
