Conditioning for a melting electrode for arc welding or soldering using a protective gas

Control unit controls the current so that the welding or soldering device is operated in a first step for a defined time period and with a defined current strength in the region of the arc so that the melting electrode forms a solid core. The arc current is reduced below a critical current strength in a second step by a predefined incline and maintained for a defined period of time. The arc current is controlled in a third step so that it passes through an impulse current phase and is reduced at the end of the phase so that the arc is extinguished. An independent claim is also included for a method for conditioning a melting electrode of a welding or soldering device.
