PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy in applying paste by suppressing variation in the amount of applied paste. SOLUTION: There is disclosed an apparatus 1 for applying paste, which includes a stage 2 whereon an object K to be coated with paste is placed, an application head 4 equipped with a nozzle that ejects paste, a transfer mechanism 3 that moves the stage 2 relative to the application head 4 in the planar direction of the stage 2, and a controller 8 that controls the application head 4 and the transfer mechanism 3 so as to apply paste onto the object K present on the stage 2 in a manner of forming a pattern of a closed loop while moving the stage 2 relative to the application head 4. The controller 8 controls the transfer mechanism 3 so as to cause the nozzle to pass through the starting point and the end point of the pattern of a closed loop at a speed not lower than the relative speed of the stage 2 relative to the application head 4 in the process of drawing the pattern.
