PURPOSE: A glass plate setting method and a measuring tool for a device for measuring the section of a glass plate are provided to enable the easy preparation of sample pieces by removal in an extra processing of the opposite side of a measured side. CONSTITUTION: A measuring tool comprises a bottom surface, a top surface(10B), a holding surface(10C), and a contact surface(10D). The bottom surface and the top surface are formed of parallel surfaces. The holding surface is placed between the bottom surface and the top surface. The holding surface is formed of the bottom surface and the top surface of a vertical plane. The contact surface contacts the glass plate between the holding surfaces.
