A hybrid construction machine comprises a controller (42) which controls the number of revolutions of an engine (30), a hydraulic pump (21) which is driven by the engine, a motor-driven electric generator (34) which assists the engine, and a hydraulic circuit which supplies a working oil discharged from the hydraulic pump (21) to a hydraulic load. The controller (42) reduces the number of revolutions of the engine (30) to a low number of revolutions lower than the regular number of revolutions and causes the motor-driven electric generator (34) to generate electricity during the reduction of the number of revolutions. |
