PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the stability of shape of a sheet and printing performance in duplex printing of the sheet. SOLUTION: The sheet conveying device 101 includes: a first roller pair 31 and a second roller pair 32 juxtaposed in order from a fixing device in a first conveying direction P1; and a tension loading mechanism 102 wherein: when conveying a sheet in the first conveying direction P1, the relationship between a first conveying speed V1 of the first roller pair 31 and a second conveying speed V2 of the second roller pair 32 is set to be V1≤V2 to apply tension to the sheet by rotating the first roller pair 31 and second roller pair 32 in a normal direction; when conveying the sheet in a second conveying direction P2, the relationship between the first conveying speed V1 of the first roller pair 31 and the second conveying speed V2 of the second roller pair 32 is set to be V1≥V2 to apply tension to the sheet by rotating the first roller pair 31 and second roller pair 32 in a reverse direction.
