PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic apparatus having a dictionary function, which retrieves a word by inputting reading of each Chinese character of a word whose reading is unknown, in a language familiar to a user. SOLUTION: When a Korean user retrieves a word composed of three Japanese Chinese characters "kitsu-sa-ten (tearoom in English)" using a Japanese-Korean dictionary, all Korean Chinese characters corresponding to a Korean reading "kiku" are read from a Korean reading-Chinese character correspondence table when inputting the first Chinese character "kitsu " of the word to be retrieved using the reading of the Chinese character in Korean "kiku" (a Hangeul character), Japanese Chinese characters having a reading of "kitsu" different from each other in Japanese Chinese character that correspond to the read Korean Chinese character are read from a Chinese character correspondence table, and are list-displayed. The desired character corresponding to "kitsu" is selected, and is input to a Chinese character headword area E3 as a retrieval character string of a Japanese headword. Next, for the Japanese Chinese characters "sa" and "ten", Korean readings "cha" and "chomu" are input, and processing is repeated in the same way, so that the Japanese Chinese characters "kitsu-sa-ten" to be retrieved are input, and the retrieval is executed using them as the retrieval character string.
