PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plating method which can inexpensively smoothening the surface of a resin base material after plating even if a projecting part exists upon forming the resin base material. SOLUTION: The plating method comprises: a stage S2 where the surface of the resin base material 11 having an unsaturated bond is subjected to oxidation treatment; a stage S3 where the surface of the base material after the oxidation treatment is brought into contact with an alkali solution so as to be a hydroxide ion concentration of≥5 mol/L, and the surface of the base material is subjected to smoothing treatment; and a stage S4 where the surface of the base material after the smoothing stage is subjected to electroless plating treatment.
