A solar heating module comprises a housing 12 having a chamber 26, at least one conduit 52 for transporting fluid through the chamber, at least one reflective surface 48, at least one transparent wall 20, 22, 24 for allowing the passage of solar radiation into the chamber, at least one duct 36, 38 in fluid communication with the chamber and a plurality of photovoltaic cells 50. An internal surface of at least one transparent wall may be coated with a solar-reflective film which traps solar energy within the chamber. Preferably, the reflective surface is a polished metal and parabolic, with the photovoltaic cells being mounted on or within the reflective surface. The conduit may extend longitudinally along the length of the reflective surface, where the conduit is located at a focal point of the reflector along its central axis. Preferably, the transparent wall is made from glass and formed as double or triple glazing containing argon gas. The chamber may contain air which is heated by solar energy and pumped out of the chamber through the duct. The module is preferably rectangular in shape for fitting between the rafters of a building roof and flashing into the roof covering. |
