<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device that outputs a high quality image by avoiding a halation and the like in response to conditions of an object. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging device 101 includes a controller 6 for setting the initial potential barrier height of a discharge gate 212a which corresponds to a start potential of discharge by controlling a control potential through a control potential generating portion 212e in response to an output signal of a pixel circuit 211.
