摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell suppressing a phenomenon such as methanol crossover in which fuel supplied from a fuel passage is passed through a polymer electrolyte membrane and oxidized in a cathode by a simple means, and enhancing the utilization efficiency of fuel and power generation performance such as the voltage of the generated power or power generation efficiency. SOLUTION: The fuel cell 30 includes a polymer electrolyte membrane 11, an anode 23 and a cathode 25 between which the polymer electrolyte membrane 11 is interposed, an anode side separator 17 having the fuel passage, a cathode side separator 21 having an oxidant passage, and gaskets 26, 27 interposed between the anode side separator 17 and the cathode side separator 21 and the peripheral part of the polymer electrolyte membrane 11. In the fuel cell 30, an orthographic projection area as viewed in the normal direction of an anode catalyst layer 31 constituting the anode 23 is larger than the orthographic projection area as viewed in the normal direction of an anode porous substrate 15 constituting the anode 23.
