<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement vane pump with a control valve as a spool valve for easily and compatibly securing the thrust of a spool and reducing a leak from the control valve. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The diameter of a pressure control part 22 of the spool 17 (the diameter of each of an outer peripheral face 17c of a swollen portion 17a and an inner peripheral face 16a of a storage hole 16) is smaller than the diameter of a pressure receiving part 24. Thus, the area of an annular clearance area in the pressure control part 22 can be smaller to suppress a leak, and the pressure receiving part 24 can be larger to secure the greater thrust of the spool 17.
