<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a printer having a staple function. <P>SOLUTION: When a user assigns a position of a staple or punch hole, a stapling/punching position is determined in response to a set paper sheet when a paper sheet size is set (S401), and the position is displayed on a picture for choices (S402). The user selects a desired position from the choices (S403). The selected position is reflected on the picture for choices (a step S405).
