<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain drive apparatus that reduces influence of tension fluctuation, achieves reduction in the size and weight of chains, prevents noise due to chain vibration, improves the system's quietness, and enables assembling and maintenance work to be carried out efficiently. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The chain drive apparatus comprises a drive sprocket, a driven sprocket, and a chain wrapped around both the sprockets to transmit a rotative force: wherein sprocket teeth 171 of the sprocket 170 are set to unequally-spaced pitches over the whole circumference of the sprocket 170 with the phase synchronizing with a rotating speed fluctuation, and the positions of the largest pitch and the smallest pitch are marked with identifiable marks 172, 173.
